I'm in Edmonton right now doing an internship at a radio station so I went back and checked out the house where I grew up. My dad built a garage there and beside the garage he put a platform for the garbage cans to sit on. While the concrete was still wet, everybody put their hand prints in before it set. It's still there. Very cool. There are hand prints from other people, besides my family, that were there when it got poured, hence the hand with the letter Q etc. That's my young hand print on the bottom left.

I think summer's here.

I'm gonna run down and grab a Slurpee.

7-11 runners! I wonder if Mac's are comin' out with a set?

The Vancouver Giants won the 2007 Memorial Cup yesterday beating the Medecine Hat Tigers 3-1. Yesterdays game was the ninth time these two have met in the last month or so.

As expected it was a very tight, low scoring game. Memorial Cup MVP Milan Lucic was a force, especially in the first period when it looked like he was the guy who wanted to win the most. Lucic really stood out finishing every check and going full tilt without taking a dumb penalty. He even squared off against Tiger defenceman Jordan Bendfeld. Bendfeld couldn't stand watching Lucic continue to take out his teamates. Bendfeld should have been asessed an instigator penalty. This was one of a handful of bad or missed calls by the officiating crew in the first half of the game. They did manage to pull it together in the second and third period.

Two other players that stood out were Darren Helm and Matthew Keetley of the Tigers. Darren Helms great speed and puck control gave the Giants the most trouble. He set up and scored Medecine Hat's only goal, a beautiful read and then a give and go with teamate Derek Dorsett. Keetley stopped 37 shots and looked very composed the whole time.

I'm stoked the Giants won, I support the team by attending games every year since their inseption 6 years ago. Is this Vancouvers first hockey championship?

Go Sens!

The Stanley Cup final begins on Monday and game one is a must see because it's difficult for me to see how the Senators and Ducks match up. I hope Ottawa brings the cup back to Canada but the Ducks are a very formidible group. Go Sens.

Here's a photo of Ottawa goaltender Ray Emery, he's a pretty cool guy. After one of the games against New Jersey CBC reporter Elliot Friedman was trying to bait Ray into praising Devils future hall of fame goalie Martin Brodeur. Emery was very humble and told Elliot that he was a Leafs fan when he was growing up. Ray knows how great Brodeur is, but c'mon Freidman, Emery had a shutout that game. Rays' presence said, I'm just doing my job. Very cool.

You go Ray, and bring the cup back to Canada where it belongs.

So i went and saw Feist w/ Chad Van Gallen last Friday at the Windspear Center here in Edmonton last Friday. It was an enjoyable show.

One of the main reasons Jen and I attended last years Sasquatch Festival was to see Chad. We were thrilled with his show. Real music, melancholy and esoteric, but in a good way. It was more of the same on Friday but in a venue that might be hosting opera. The accoustics really worked for him and his band also he was playing a Gibson Explorer, which is a very cool guitar. Feist was also good. I'm only familiar with her first album but she has a unique presence and a very talented band. Very enjoyable. You can tell from my photos were I watched the show from, stage right, sitting in a chair. Very comfy just like the show. Thanx Nhaelan.

Edmonton's best coffee. A friend of mine, Dallas, tipped me off about where I could find, what he thought is the best coffee in Edmonton. If there is a better place I don't know if I care. Leva is located on 111 st. & 86 ave. and it's amazing.

When I first walked up I got excited because on the back end of the building there's a company that sells & distributes coffee machines. There's no way that you're going to sell bad coffee when you sell machines from the back of the building.

Leva is amazing. The staff are super nice, the space is beautiful and the coffee is as good as anywhere I've ever been. I feel compelled to go there every time I drive into Edmonton now.

Thanx for the tip Dallas you're a friend indeed.

Feist w/ Chad Van Gallen tonight and the F.A. Cup tommorow. Yahoo.

I was offered the oppertunity to go see the band Metric last night and jumped at the chance. I invited a freind of mine who I hadn't seen in years to come with me. He was excited about going but called methe afternoon of the show and told me he was old and just couldn't go. Poor guy. I went any way, another friend of mine was going so I assumed that I'd see her and her boyfreind and I wouldn't be solo.

I don't own any of Metric's albums but I'm familiar with their music they make because they're popular. They're popular because they're a great band. Metric takes alot of elements of new wave and post punk and make music that's contemporary not retro or cliche. They played alot of new songs. I only knew that because lead singer Emily Haines said so. I had to wake up early for work so I left at midnight, but hey, I'm not old. I'm sure I'll never ever be able to see them again in such an intimate venue. Very cool band and I'm glad I went.

There are other things I wanted to talk about. Anybody who listens to sports radio has heard people discussing the suspensions from the Phoenix Suns/ San Antonio Spurs series, game 4. The NBA has no choice but to adhere to the rules they have created about players leaving the bench. People have said that they want commisioner David Stern to make the rule disscretionary. This should never happen. The rule is there for a reason and it should stay. Hey I'm cheering for the Suns too, like most of Canada, most of the players know the rules. The suspended players have no one to blame but themselves. This situation has created mega-hype for the series and even people who don't really watch hoops (me) want to see game 6 to see if the Suns tie it up. Go Suns.

The other thing I saw that I thought was funny was on MTV Canada. K-OS dropped by the studio because Amy Winehouse was going to be on. I like K-OS, but it was a little embarassing watching K-OS jump in on questions asked to Amy. An audience member asked, if she could match create a duet between 2 artists living or dead who would they be? As Amy Winehouse was thinking, K-OS jumped in and said,"me and you" and she just stared/ignored him. Very funny.

I got to go on a little tour of Commonwealth Stadium today. Very cool to see it empty and also very cool to see the locker room where all the legendary Eskimo teams prepared for battle. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take pictures inside the dressing room. I'd like to thank squeaky Brad & Molly Campbell for making it happen. Here's some pix.

The orginal finishing date of my internship at TEAM 1260 will be extended by a week or so as I've been offered 3 days of work. I'll be board oping and reading updates for Jason Gregors show that runs from 9pm to 12am weekdays. I'm pretty stoked that I'll get to do some actual work. The Teams' format is a great and I would love to have a job talking sports and taking calls from listeners who want to talk about sports, good fun.

So unless I get a job I'll return to Vancouver for a while and continue to hunt for a radio job. It's going to get very hot here this week. I'll get to see Metric play for the first time and I'm going to golf which should be interesting. I took lessons a few years ago but only pitch and putted after so....should be fun.

Squeaky Brad is going to take me on a tour of the Edmonton Eskimo's facilities tomorrow, I'll have pics.

Here's a picture of a truck that my freind Garn might want to buy. Just kidding Garn, luv ya.

One of best things about doing my internship in Edmonton is that most of my family live here. Last Weekend me and Jen went down to Drumheller to visit my Grandma, Ellen Hoy. She's pretty amazing. When I was having trouble as a teenager in high school it seemed that she was the only person who was concerned about how I felt. Other people were more concerned with telling me what I should be doing and how I was just fucking up. She mailed me a letter that said that she knew how things can get stressfull and confusing when you're a teenager.
We spent the day talking, grocery shopping and looking at old pictures. She has this huge collection of bells that's been accumulating since I was a kid and once people know you collect something they love to help. Before we left she let me Jen take one each. An extra bonus was seeing my Aunt Marge for the first time in years. She's also my God parent so that was very cool. They both have great energy, great day.

If Sharks had wheels they'd be falling off. The San Jose Sharks are in a tail spin after losing game 5 in Detroit. The Sharks who were my pick to come out of the West, were about 30 seconds away from victory when an empty net goal was quickly followed up by a Robert Langs wrist shot at the other end. Mathieu Schneider won it in OT with a seeing eye slap shot from the blue line. They lost the game and they lost vetran winger Bill Guerin after he took Christian Ehrhoff's slap shot to the face from about 10 feet away. When I saw the replay I winced and sayed holy shit, to nobody. Ehrhoff must feel terrible.

Game 6 Monday.

Hello again from Devon. I'm half way through my internship at TEAM 1260. Nice people but not alot of hands on work which is dissapointing. Drove my Mom & Dad to the airport today. They're going to Germany & Ireland etc. to walk around learn more about their roots. They were pretty excited so I'm happy for them. More hockey and job searching. I need to play some hockey. Here's a couple of pictures, what I look at on the way home & what I look at when I'm at the TEAM.
