In the previous post I had alluded that starting pitcher Shaun Marcum would be returning this season to help the Jays starting rotation.
Last September after an abbreviated start he left with elbow pain, the Jays released information that Marcum would need Tommy John surgery and would miss the rest of the 2008 season and likely all of 2009.
It's really to bad Shaun was drafted by the Jays and had become a big part of the starting rotation. Let's hope he can return to his fine form next year.

My favorite baseball team, The Toronto Blue Jays have just completed their first week of the 2009 season and things look pretty good. Obviously it's hard to get to excited about starting 5-2 on a schedule that features over a a hundred more games but feeling good for a little while is better than not feeling good at all. All Jays fans are hoping that this years model of the Jays are capable of pulling off a cinderella season like their division rival Tampa Bay Devil Rays did last year, making it all the way to the World Series. A season where most people would have bet against the Rays even being competitive, sharing a division with two of baseballs biggest spenders, the Yankees & Red Sox.
The Jays need everything, and I do mean everything, to go right for them to have a chance in the land of giants (American League East) to participate in the post season.
When will Alex Rios and vernon Wells are solid players but when will they have the great seasons they're capable of?
The Jays have one of baseballs best starting pitchers in Roy Halladay but their weakness is still pitching.
This is the first season in Jays history where they've had two rookies in their starting rotation. Two of their regular starters, Marcum and McGowan, who are proven competitive pitchers are on the DL and will return. Making the starting rotation competitive. The problem is probably the bullpen. Closer BJ Ryan has yet to return to his best form since missing most of last season with an injury. Scott Frasor came in to relieve him against the Cleveland Saturday to save the mess he created when he tried to close out a 3 run lead, scary.
Anyway, I'm a Jays fan just being cautiously optimistic because we've had our best start in years. So this is good times.
That being said I wonder how long Roy Halladay will last in Toronto before he gets tired of missing the post season? I think fans in Toronto should stand and applaud him now and let him know how much they appreciate having one of baseballs best on their roster before he gets tried of being an also ran.
Bless Roy Hallady & go Jays!
